Nicole Lozano, PhD LIMHP

Mental Health Practitioner/Therapist

Nicole Lozano, Ph.D., LIMHP (she/her/hers) is uniquely skilled at creating and maintaining meaningful connections even when separated by distance, making her an ideal therapist for clients requesting Telehealth services. Nicole is a Texas native and resident who keeps part of her heart in Nebraska. Nicole earned her Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln’s Counseling Psychology program (APA-Accredited). Nicole is now an Associate Professor at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, where she teaches, trains, and mentors the next generation of counselors, as well as directs the Gender Studies program. Nicole continues her clinical work by providing Telehealth counseling services for adolescents, adults, and couples residing in Nebraska.

Nicole has more than a decade of experience providing mental health services for a variety of presenting concerns. She specializes in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, and life path confusion. She particularly enjoys working with emerging adults and college students experiencing these challenges. Nicole has a keen eye for spotting self-criticism among high-performing individuals, and is skilled with helping people develop a more self-compassionate way through life. Nicole also has experience providing relationship therapy in community-based settings. She works with couples for whom communication, connection, sexuality, reproductive decisions, parenting, and forgiveness are presenting concerns.

Nicole integrates client-centered approaches with feminist and cognitive approaches to therapy. As a Daring Way™ facilitator, Nicole’s therapy style has been influenced by the work of Brené Brown and Shame Resilience Theory. Nicole embodies genuineness in her interactions, and fosters therapeutic relationships characterized by warmth, empathy, insightful reflections, safety, and trust. Nicole strives to create relationships where clients feel certain of her unconditional positive regard and support for their agency in the change-making process.

I believe that everyone is striving to be their best selves, but often something gets in the way. It could be how we think about ourselves, the pressures we feel from society, the struggles we had in our childhood — all kinds of distractions keep us from being our best selves. My job as a therapist is to help clients figure out those distractions so that they can be who they want to be.
