Steph Engelbart, MSW LICSW (she/her/hers) is an independently licensed clinical social worker. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in Social Work and her Master of Social Work degrees (CSWE-Accredited) from the Grace Abbot School of Social Work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Steph currently works with Kindred by facilitating gender diverse support groups for adolescents and their caregivers.
Steph has over fifteen years of experience providing counseling services to individuals and families in community-based, inpatient, foster care, assisted living, and outpatient therapy settings. Through working in a wide range of treatment environments, Steph has gained substantial experience working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, acute trauma symptoms and PTSD, concerns of aging, parenting challenges, and family transitions. Steph uses a collaborative and family systems approach to therapy, drawing from strengths-based therapies, mindfulness-based cognitive therapies, and cognitive-behavioral therapies in her work.
In addition, Steph has developed specialized interest and expertise in working with transgender and gender diverse youth, families, and adults. Steph attends local and national conferences to ensure she is providing the most empirically supported care for her transgender and gender diverse clients. Therapy is guided by treatment goals such as:
- Discovering and facilitating the most authentic self
- Alleviating gender dysphoria, gender stress or distress
- Building gender resilience
- Securing social supports
Steph is a true social worker at heart who is strongly invested in progressive cultural change. She has long been active in supporting social progress for the LGBTQ+ community through activist efforts with PFLAG and GLSEN. She embodies the person-centered principle of unconditional positive regard for others. We appreciate the warmth, levity, and commitment to joy that Steph brings to Kindred Psychology. Through her words and example, she provides steady reminders to live a well-rounded life and ensure we are caring for ourselves as well as we care for others.
