Lillian Bornstein, MSW PLMHP PCMSW
Telehealth-only Therapist
Lillian Bornstein, MSW PLMHP PCMSW (they+) is a Telehealth-only therapist/social worker. Lillian works psychodynamically and relationally, paying attention to clients’ histories, social context, and the therapeutic relationship. Lillian brings warmth, curiosity, and deep engagement to the therapeutic process to support clients in cultivating more self-understanding, healing, connection, and self-compassion.
Lillian enjoys working with queer and trans individuals, youth and adolescents, and adults of all ages and stages of life. Lillian’s approach is eclectic, pulling from somatic therapy, parts-based work, play-/art-based therapy, narrative therapy, and other modalities based on each individual’s needs. Lillian believes the client is the expert of their own experience and strives to co-create an empathetic and transformative environment for healing, growth, and discovery. Lillian utilizes frameworks of weight neutrality, disability justice, anti-racism, and feminist and queer theory. They are supervised by Kindred Psychology clinicians.
Lillian received their MSW from Smith College School for Social Work. In their first clinical internship, Lillian worked with neurodiverse teens as a high school social worker. At their second internship, Lillian provided psychodynamic therapy for adults and youth at the William Alanson White Institute, an interpersonal psychoanalytic training institute in New York City.
Prior to Lillian’s career in social work, they received their Bachelor of Arts at Stanford University, where they worked at the Stanford Women’s Community Center. Following their BA, Lillian also received Master of Arts at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. With this background in theatre and expressive arts, Lillian brings a strong sense of collaboration and creativity to their therapeutic work.
With their roots in Lincoln, Lillian was drawn to Kindred Psychology as an affirming space to support LGBTQ+ individuals in Nebraska. They currently reside in New York with two perfect and troublesome cats. Outside of work, you can find Lillian knitting, going on long walks, and making art.
We live in a world full of beauty, pain, and change. We may be holding or experiencing pain in our bodies, in our pasts, in our relationships, and related to the harmful systems we navigate. In therapy, we can explore your history, dreams, emotions, identities, and beyond in an empathetic and attuned environment. Understanding the stories you’ve internalized, and the defenses you’ve adopted to cope, can nourish your sense of freedom and self-compassion. Noticing these patterns and messages allows you to be more intentional with what you do with them, and to see the strength and creativity that have helped you survive. I hope therapy can be a transformative space to learn about yourself and grow toward a life full of vibrancy, alignment, and connection.
Lillian sees clients under the supervision of Kindred Psychology clinicians. As such, they are covered as an in-network provider under supervision with most major health plans, including United Healthcare and affiliates, Cigna, and Midland’s Choice. Lillian is directly contracted with BCBS and Nebraska Medicaid managed care plans.
Lillian can also see clients on a self-pay basis. Our Client Coordination Team can provide you with more information about this option if you are interested; just write “self-pay” in the corresponding field when submitting your service request!
