Learn about Telehealth services here

Max Johnson (they/them) is a Telehealth-only provider under the supervision of Rachel Oxley, MSW LICSW. Max joined Kindred Psychology as a full-time clinician after completing internship for their Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP-accredited) degree at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Throughout their time at Kindred Psychology, Max has gained specialized experience and training working with gender diverse and neurodivergent people. They enjoy working with individuals on issues related to these often-intersecting identities, which includes working to manage symptoms related to depression, anxiety, trauma, autism, and ADHD.

Max enjoys working with a range of individuals, from adolescents to adults, with a focus on emerging and young adult populations. Max is particularly passionate about working with individuals who are coming to understand neurodiversity within themselves for the first time, helping to recognize symptoms and behaviors that may have been overlooked in their youth. As a queer and neurodivergent therapist, Max believes in every client’s capacity to grow towards self-actualization in an empathetic and accepting environment. They understand that the internalized self-critical beliefs that marginalized individuals carry with them can greatly contribute to worse mental health outcomes. They strive to be neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed in their practice, and to be a fellow traveler in each client’s journey of growth and self-discovery.

Max utilizes evidence-based techniques from an eclectic approach, with an emphasis on person-centered therapy (PCT), mindful self-compassion (MSC), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

Max previously graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in Political Science and Child, Youth, and Family Studies from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Max understands that, all too often, poor mental health can result from poor material conditions and unaccepting environments. They are passionate about social justice and structuring our society in a way that uplifts everyone.
