Max Johnson, MS PLMHP

Max Johnson (they/them) joined our practice as a Telehealth-only provider after completing an internship under the supervision of Rachel Oxley, MSW LICSW at Kindred Psychology as part of their Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP-accredited) degree at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Throughout their time at Kindred Psychology, Max has gained experience working with the neurodiverse and gender diverse populations, learning more about the struggles that individuals with these often-intersecting identities experience. Max has focused on the tenants of person-centered therapy throughout their education and practice, which they embody through an approach that is nonjudgmental and curious.
Max previously graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in Political Science and Child, Youth, and Family Studies from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Max understands that, all too often, poor mental health can result from poor material conditions and unaccepting environments. They are passionate about social justice and structuring our society in a way that uplifts everyone.
As a queer and neurodivergent therapist, Max believes in every client’s capacity to grow towards self-actualization in an empathetic and accepting environment. They strive to be neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed in their practice, and to be a fellow traveler in each client’s journey of growth and self-discovery. Max utilizes evidence-based techniques from an eclectic approach, with an emphasis on person-centered therapy (PCT), mindful self-compassion (MSC), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
